I think I’m getting close to finally connecting my main Sonos Music Library that resides on a 1TB Crucial X8 drive. After updating the speaker firmware and the Sonos S2 controller on our iMac (Sonoma OS), I was able to play music from the iMac controller but, when adding that library to the iOS app, I continually got the “Access Denied - Check User Name and Password.”

With that being said, I’m assuming that I use the network path for that iMac and music folder, the user name for that iMac and, the password used to start up and access that iMac… correct? I’ve triple-checked those credentials and they seem correct. Unlike the links on a Sonos video link, I’m typing the network path thusly:  //Carols-iMac/Sonos Family Room   I’ve also seen “ \\ “ .  (As a point of clarification, Sonophone has no issue with this network path and I’m able to play my music via this method. But, it’s not ideal and not a full-featured app like Sonos’.)

There’s still some discussion regarding the SMB protocol and, for iMacs and my Crucial drives, the SMB version is set by the Mac’s OS, not any software provided by Crucial as per several Community posts and Crucial tech support. (Yes, the Windows version does have a desktop app that will allow you to delve into the drives and make adjustments to the SMB protocols).

Like I said, I think I’m close but I’m missing something small… I think.  Do I need a different Mac external drive that is known to work with the new, other worldly Sonos mobile app?

If nobody has a better suggestion try the connection again and quickly submit a diagnostic.

Sonos Support can then look at your internal data when you contact them to tell you just what is going wrong.

Hi, Stanley… I’m about to do just that. I’m just not looking forward to being on hold and then spending 1 ½ hours futzing with Tech Support. Naturally, like others, it would be nice if Sonos issued a patch and all of this was done automatically.  I appreciate you shooting me a reply.  Have a great weekend.
