abc radio stations not playing on sonos 1 - sill playing on sonos 2 (other stations still playing ok on both)

I too have had problems in Sonos S1 with RadioApp not connecting since Thursday 10/9. Sonos and RadioApp both report their ‘service status’ is good. Power off, power on. Remove RadioApp, add RadioApp etc. This is what I get every time:

Yep done all that - has to be something that ABC has changed or S1 changed to how they manage some feeds (?) given everything else works (and still works on S2...)?

Have you called Sonos Support to discuss it?

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

I can easily see the ABC changing the format that something S1 can’t process…but that’s just a guess, since I don’t have an S1 system to test on. But we knew that at some point, S1 not receiving updates that S2 does was going to be a problem. 

It’s my hope it is just the server at the other end having issues, and not Sonos, but I honestly don’t know. You’ll probably want to contact either Sonos support, at the link mentioned above, but you may, at least potentially, contact either the streamer, or the stations in particular. Sonos merely points to a server that is supplied by the streaming service, it doesn’t host any of the data itself.

Just as a note, I’m assuming by using the term ABC, you’re intending the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and not the American Broadcasting Corporation.

Have messaged ABC - assuming they have changed something - will post back here any relevant replies.

I’ve had a similar problem over the last two days. We are running S1 as one of our components does not allow S2, and radio not working on any of our speakers. This was the case with Australian ABC stations, Norwegian Broadcasting stations and also my BBC shortcuts. Managed to restore BBC and the Norwegian stations by adding the latter as a service (which it didn’t need before) and BBC came back after deleting the shortcut, searching for it on TuneIn and then adding it to favorites again. 

Was on the phone with Sonos today and they are saying that ABC has changed their streaming and currently they are not able to handle it but that it has been flagged to engineering. They advised to play ABC in the ABC listen app and connect with a cable if the speaker does not allow for bluetooth or airplay, or other wise use either of those options to connect to the speaker. When using the TuneIn app directly on my Ipad the ABC stations play without any problems, so why they then won’t play via TuneIn on Sonos is and interesting question.

Hopefully they will sort it out but not having great hopes given the lack of support for older devices and I would assume also S1 as the controller.

hmmm… thanks :) feels like sonos are trying to lose customers - in a world where brand loyalty is worth something… i wont be replacing sonos with sonos...

Then I’d certainly not recommend anything that runs software, or firmware, which tend to age out over time. Unfortunately, ‘smart’ isn’t what you want, apparently. 

Haha I know it is the nature of the beast… amps… watches… tvs… the lifecycle gets less on each iteration!

It’s the unfortunate price we pay for ’smarter’ devices, and it becomes much more difficult to find the ‘old fashioned’ kinds of things. Selling to ‘Luddites’ appears not to be profitable.

I am having the same problem, no ABC on S1 devices, S2 works fine.

Bascially the ABC have rationalised their service to either the listen app which isn’t directly compatible with Sonos S1 or Radioapp which also won’t play these streams on Sonos.

Tunein is no longer an option and Sonos radio also won’t play these streams.

AI is telling me ABC changed the streaming format and S1 devices can’t handle it?

Are you using RadioApp, per https://help.abc.net.au/hc/en-us/articles/360001153396-How-can-I-listen-to-ABC-radio-through-Sonos ? 

Generally speaking, S1 uses a smaller list of recognized root certificates, and this can cause streams to no longer be playable on S1 systems as the SSL negotiation will fail.

However reading the above article seems to imply that S1 should still work via RadioApp, so I would reach out to ABC and let them know (they likely have no S1 systems to test with).

We are continuing to investigate issues playing ABC radio stations on Google smart speaker devices that is causing audio to pause and repeat.
 
We are also aware some older Sonos speakers have lost ABC radio stations - this appears to mostly be affecting Sonos Series 1 and the cause is under investigation.
 
In the meantime, ABC radio can be heard on the ABC listen app / website on mobile devices, the ABC listen website on desktop computers, AM/FM radio, DAB+ digital radio in metro areas or ABC Radio channels on TV. Normal troubleshooting steps (such as those listed below) are not required at this stage. Thank you for your patience while we try to resolve these issues with the third parties that repeat our streams. 

Sill not working this morning.  The RadioAPP 891 ABC Adelaide has the same pop up message.  I tried all Australian Capital cities ABC and it is the same pop up.

Since all Sonos does is point their controller/speakers to ABC’s (Australia) servers, have you checked with them on their progress, as the OP did?
