2025 Apple update, now I can not access my system with my Mac.

My Mac updated, and now in one house, I can not access the existing system though the MAC app, it is still able to be controlled through my iPhone.  (here we have the newer equipment)

 

At my other House, we are using the (Generation 1) S5,  and the S1 controller, the system was no longer found, so we did a hard reset on the speaker, now we can not get the speaker to connect to the router, we hard wired it into the router as it is the final step for set up, the message was that the speaker could not be found.   No sure how it was found enough to set up its own wifi signal, but when it came to connect it in to the router, it was not found.

If the S5 is indeed a first gen PLAY:5, as I believe, it’s possible that the WiFi electronics may have failed in it, causing it to not connect via WiFi or when plugged in. If the previous advice ends up not resolving the issue, I would certainly suggest calling Sonos Support directly to discuss it.

When you speak directly to the phone folks, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

You’ve posted several issues.

1. What MacOS are you running.

2. What is a S5?

3. Please describe your network setup.

Mac OS Sequoia 15.4.1.  is what is running at both places.  

S5 is (gen 1) its a  play 5 big speaker (it is probably 15-17 years old.). It was working fine until the upgrade to the Mac software which was done on Saturday night.   Sunday morning when we went to use the system, the Mac app was no longer able to access the existing system.   Now there is no existing as we have done a hard reset to the speaker.  I have tired to set up the system again through my iPhone.  we got no where.  its very frustrating, that 48 hours ago I had a functioning speaker, and today, I can not connect it into my router, to work at all.     it is the only speaker in that house.  

I am not sure what you mean by network setup.   

do you mean the process?   I follow the set up instructions on my iPhone.  

If you mean what do I have in the house?   I have a router and wifi In one unit supplied from the cable company.  my computer connected in by wifi, obviously so does my iPhone.  

The bigger problem is, the old speaker is at my parents house, and they do not have smartphones, so the only way they can access the system is through the computer,  when I was there yesterday, trying to reset it up into the router, I had zero success.  Since this seems like a software issue done by Mac, I am confused as to why when I was on my iPhone, I still could not get the speaker and the router to connect.

Try disabling the firewall on the Mac temporarily to get the speaker setup. Then check for updated to make sure the speaker has the latest firmware. The reenable the firewall and check the connection to the speaker.

When I first started with this process the firewall was turned off on the Mac.   In the Sonos community somewhere it says to turn the firewall on and add the Sonos to allow incoming connections.  which I have done.  neither has worked,  not at my parents with the old speaker, or at my house with the new speakers.  it is so frustrating to have lost access to the system.

My home is filled with Apple products as well as Sonos., I DO NOT have any devices set to auto update. This is in case there is an issues with an update that I am not able to roll back easily. 

But if you are unable to get any device connected, I would guess it has something to do with your network.

First, try powering off everything: router/network, speakers, Macs and phones. Wait 5 minutes…

Starting with the router/network, power it on and allow it to fully boot.

Then one speaker at a time, power them on allowing it to fully boot before moving on to the next. Then the Macs. Try connecting again.

If that works, I would recommend you create an IP reservation and give all your speakers a static IP through your router/network.

Pools.  I will try that as far as the last part about IP. That is over my head. I don't know what that all means…    

 I would like to believe the WiFi did not break in the speaker…  the same day we updated the Mac software.   And that it happened on both locations. Tells me this OS definitely a software update issue …

What is the model of your router? I’m sure there is support documentation with instructions or a YouTube video tutorial on how to set static IPs for your particular device.

While you may be correct in thinking that hardware failures can be ruled out, the older gen devices sometimes benefit from a wired connection. I have a Play 1 and a Connect that have always been hardwired to my network. I have not had any issues with those devices
