Hi

I have been using Sonos system for about a year. We have 8 speakers, 2 beams and are generally verry satisfied with the system 🙂

But I have some wishes for improvements regarding Tidal integration that is the music supplied I mostly use.

In Tidal app:

The integration should be improved for better stability. I understand that this isn't something you can do by your own, but I guess focus from you on it can bring it forward.  I have tried to report it detaily to Tidal but it have'nt been improved so far.

I experience that in example changing speaker after starting to play stops it all. Then need to stop Tidal app to get it work again. Adding songs isn't fetched, change order of songs is not fetched and so on. In short: The stability needs to be improved.

Tidal in Sonos app:

I have been primarily using the Tidal app to play music since I like some features there. But I til stability is improved I will try to use the built in Tidal In Sonos app. There I have this wishes for improvement:

 - Search history: When searching i Tidal section see the last searches.

 - Last playd: I know this is in the front page, but would like to see it also in the Tidal section.

 - Improve front page of Tidal section: It's now only a list. Would want to see some covers/images, suggestions etc.

Thank you in advance

Amund

Sonos doesn’t have, to my knowledge, access to the Tidal codebase. Sonos would have written an API, with instructions , and handed it off to various integrators like Tidal and Apple, as well as any others who requested it. How that API gets integrated into each companies software is ultimately up to each company, Sonos doesn’t have any access to do it themselves. I suspect the best they can do is pass on your comments to Tidal….and since Sonos has no financial arrangement with them makes it likely ‘less’ important than a paying customer’s direct feedback to Tidal.

I suspect the greatest input Sonos may have is QA wise, essentially if it works with Sonos speakers, but I’d guess they have little or minimal input on how that integration looks/works.

Keep your feedback up to Tidal as well. Both companies likely need nudging.

Yes, I guess that is correct for the first part of the opening post. (Second part should be totaly up to Sonos I think?)

But I anyway wanted to post it as it ultimately also affect the customer experience also for Sonos. Even though they can't affect Tidal code directly it should be possible for them to engage a project between the two companies to improve the stability.

The question I’ve never looked in to is how much functionality is in the API. I suppose it could be detailed on the Sonos partners page, I’ve never had the inkling to look. If the desired functionality isn’t in the API, then yes, Sonos is whom you should be nudging, although likely not in this forum, since there is little ‘official’ presence other than moderators.

As far as I’m aware, they haven’t updated APIs in a long time, likely due to two factors: first, so many random folks are part of the ‘Sonos’ ecosystem, and second, due to the fact the direct control side of things relinquishes enough control, and they’re hesitant about making multiple versions, essentially for each company, as that requires much more coding time, each time this (currently singular) API gets modified.

I do wish you luck in your desires. I suspect that Sonos would react more to direct requests from Tidal, even barring the fact there is zero financial relationship there. But I’m just guessing, from my previous experiences with coding requests.Â
