Are there not enough threads flogging this dead horse already? Do we really need another one? No.

Probably as many threads as there are complainers and fanboy apologists in equal measure. There are ways around it. There is also bo need to even use it in this day and age, but there is an equally valid argument that Sonos should br able to address this - if even only for the S2 kit range. 
 

We all know that Sonos is glacial to change and adapt. But lingering with deprecated tech and leaving customers vulnerable is not a great look. It can’t be beyond their ability. But their silence and lack of action tells you more about their attitude.

i’ve never quite understood the lack of customer focus. What is a good product and generally great experience could surely be ‘Amazing’ with a few minor changes in attitude, culture and drive within the snr management. Head in sand trick only works for so long. 

The newer SMBs won’t fit in the older S1 gear.

Porting the Sonos software from the antique, unmaintained (but back-ported patches) kernel is not easy, fast or cheap.

So few Sonos users care about SMB that it is a low priority and most that did care have taken one of the many work-arounds and don’t care any more.

S1 gear is dead and won’t get any new features. I don’t think anyone expects Sonos to change that. But it should something for S2 to provide ‘official’ support for sharing local files from NAS without workarounds or security concerns.
