When the new app was released, we were promised that all the missing features would return within a few months. But as we all know, it ended up taking much longer than that.
In the middle of all the confusion, I asked Sonos directly if — and when — the volume button shortcut to the Equaliser would come back. I quickly got a reply saying it was just around the corner, and that it was now a priority since many users had contacted Sonos specifically about this missing shortcut.
Well… it’s now been almost a year since I was told it was just around the corner. So I hope it’s okay for me to ask here: When can we realistically expect it to return?
The EQ shortcut was a useful feature of the previous app.
The question was asked in the last Office Hours on Reddit. Unfortunately, the Sonos reply there didn’t imply that restoring the shortcut to EQ was in any way forthcoming.

Your post is more likely to be marked as a feature request given the volume EQ shortcut has never been available in the new Sonos app.

I’m not exactly sure what “Office Hours” is, but from what you’re saying, it sounds like Sonos made a promise they can’t (or won’t) keep. And that’s really frustrating.
This feature — the volume button shortcut to the EQ — was something I used daily. At my workplace, I could easily adjust the sound to hit the sweet spot no matter where I stood in my shop. My kids could boost the bass when watching movies or playing games, and I could quickly switch it back for music listening. That flexibility made a real difference in our day-to-day use.
Honestly, this shortcut was one of the key reasons I chose Sonos over other audio platforms. So when Sonos promised it would return, I felt more at ease about the new app and decided to give it time. But now, if they’re starting to talk about not reintroducing it at all — that’s more than just disappointing. It feels like a breach of trust.
This situation really highlights one of the biggest downsides of closed, app-dependent ecosystems like Sonos: you never know when your favorite features will just disappear overnight — and you have no control over it. As we’ve seen across Sonos user groups on Facebook, many users are now hesitant to update at all, because “update” has started to mean “downgrade.”
I still hope Sonos will follow through and re-add this feature as they said they would. But situations like this seriously make me reconsider investing more money into the system. Reliability and trust matter — especially for those of us who’ve been loyal to the platform for years.
Office Hours is a monthly Q&A session where questions asked by the Reddit community are answered by Sonos employees.
r/sonos appears to be the favoured platform for Sonos engaging with their users.
Actually found this thread from 10mths ago.
The thread was marked as a feature request.
I would also like its return. It doesn’t appear to me that restoring the shortcut EQ in some capacity is being given any sort of priority. It’s been unavailable for the past 14mths, whilst other questionable design decisions are introduced in app updates.

Plus one requesting the return of this feature, please Sonos.
Please return the EQ settings to the front screen over the Volume slider.
OR!
Tell us that you cant do it.
Its just too hard.
To expensive.
Bob, the bloke who put it on in the first place has left.
What’s the answer?
This post will probably get deleted, but there is a solution for all of this, and that is to use the Sonofy app. That app is better in all eras and sonos should just buy it and called it the official app.
I think that there are running spats at SONOS between having a “simple” and “complex” user interface. Offering lots of visible options is “complex” to many users and “handy” to others.
My observation is that younger users like to fondle their screens. They seem to prefer very sparse screens that (in my opinion) need to be scrolled in order to accomplish anything. But, at first glance the screens look simple.
This post will probably get deleted,
Why would you think that?

Why would Sonos care what app you use? They spent a fortune developing their API so other apps could connect directly, why would they not want you to utilize that API?

I’ve had a lot of posts deleted before. Seems like every time I say something in favor of non-Sonos software, they delete my posts. But maybe I’m wrong 🤷🏻♂️
Anyway, try the Sonify app! It still has a lot of features the original Sonos app is missing — like adjusting volume with the physical buttons, quick access to the EQ, and better connectivity. Many users who’ve had problems with the official Sonos app say this one solves them 🤗🤩👌

Really amazing that you alone have managed to aggravate Sonos enough that they violate their forum policy and delete your posts.
