I get that currently the Play 1 doesn't support Airplay - but is is planned for the near future? These are quite new speakers and it's very annoying that I can't play direct from my iOS Podcast App etc.

The Play 1 will not directly support Airplay2 but the newer Play One and Beam will. This is due to limited processing power of the older units. However a workaround is to but one airplay2 capable speakers and group with the one you wish to stream using Airplay2 - turning down the volume on those other connected speakers. Only need one Airplay2 enabled device in the setup to effect this.
