spotify not playing in stereo through Connect to receiver

I am streaming Spotify through a Connect to the aux RCA jacks on a Yamaha receiver and the output is not in stereo,  verified by playing a left/right channel test track.  Both channels play through both speakers at once.  The test track works through headphones plugged into the phone.

A bit off topic,:but for my money forget stereo test tracks. Just play the first 20 seconds of "Beautiful Girl " by INXS. You'll see what I mean. Well you will if you are getting stereo.

I think there is a “mono” setting in the Sonos app somewhere. Is this turned on?

Thanks,  no there does not seem to be a 'mono' setting in the Sonos 1 app.

Just for the purpose of elimination

  1. What happens if you stream through a different connection on the amp, such as the CD input?
  2. Are all connections solid?
  3. Do you have another cable to try (if all plays fine through another input, this is obviously a redundant test)

Same story using both the tape in and aux in, yet the turntable is in stereo using phono in. I tried the sonos on another amp,  same issue. I tried another cable too.

There is in my app, in the Port settings

Are you playing using the Sonos app and Sonos system, or are you using the Spotify app via Spotify Connect?

Does tbe issue occur with both?

Sorry, just noticed you are on S1. I can't check if tbere is a  mono / stereo setting in S1.

Great song! Still mono... :(  The test track I used plays true left right stereo separation when I plug headphones into it. Weirdly, plugging the phone directly into the Connect with RCA cables also plays mono. I'm at a loss. It also did this with a new Wiim Pro which I returned before I bought the used Sonos connect. I also checked both streamers on a newer receiver vs my vintage Yamaha.  Same issue. I even tried my wife and son's newer phones.

What happens if you just plug one of the RCA cables into one of the inputs?

If you move it to the other input?

Can you hook different devices to the right and left jacks and see what plays?

Maybe some pictures of the cables, the output of the Yamaha, and the input of the CONNECT might help?

Because there’s no mono setting in S1, I’m thinking maybe the cabling isn’t quite what we’re all assuming it is?

Maybe it’s time to submit a system diagnostic, note the confirmation number, and call Sonos Support.
