After years of waiting, Spotify Lossless has finally been released!

https://newsroom.spotify.com/2025-09-10/lossless-listening-arrives-on-spotify-premium-with-a-richer-more-detailed-listening-experience/

“Lossless is available on mobile, desktop, and tablet, as well as on many devices that support Spotify Connect, including SonyBoseSamsungSennheiser, and more. Support for additional devices, including those from Sonos and Amazon, arrives next month.”

There are some technical unknowns here, and we need Sonos support to step in and clarify.

For clarity:: Some devices that support spotify connect will happily stream lossless audio from Spotify without the need for any software or firmware updates. For example, my Denon AVR is confirmed as streaming lossless audio from Spotify without any issue, and importantly without *any* updates being applied (I havent updated it in the 5 years I have owned it, and it was an old model even back then).

I am personally interested in the situation for Sonos Gen 1 gear (I have 3 play 5`s). I would like to see this cleared up by Sonos support to avoid exessive noise on the forums. @Corry P  - any chance of an official statement on this topic, pretty please?

Got Spotify lossless this morning but unfortunately will have to wait for Sonos to make the necessary firmware update before I will be able to experience the potential improvement.

Not sure if this is a work around until Sonos makes their firmware update but it appears I’m getting lossless Spotify by using Airplay from my iPad to Sonos Amp.

So, do you hear an improvement?

Yes, chatgpt suggests the same workaround 😀

Workaround works for me as well (for now with airplay and streamed to my Sonos amp). Now I need time to hear the difference… probably beyond my abilities😅

Are you certain it’s playing in lossless? When streaming from an iPhone to Sonos over AirPlay 2, the audio is typically converted to AAC at 256 kbps, so the original lossless quality may not be preserved.

You are probably right. Come on, Sonos😅
