I'm thinking of upgrading my phone. Is there a chance that the App works better on a newer device?

Define ‘better’, please. 

In general, there isn’t a lot of work being done by the controller on your device, it is merely a window in to what is happening on your speakers. 

Usually, people who are concerned about things like lag turn out to have network issues, not an issue with the app.

I have a variety of devices, no real App differences as long as the OS is supported by the App.
