Sonos App not working in MacOS Golden Gate Beta

Its Thorny

Since installing the MacOS Golden Gate Beta, the Sonos app will not find the system.

Firewall is off, so the only help in the Sonos app about that is of no effect.

I know the app is vintage anyway, but has anyone worked out how to get out working?

I know everyone will say use the web app, but it’s crap. I want the app and its native experience with notifications etc.

Unfortunately everyone will say to use the web app because that’s what Sonos wants you to use now, and is likely the only option. The app and its native experience will be gone shortly, and lack of Golden Gate support is likely an indicator of its imminent incompatibility.

That said, have you tried deleting and reinstalling the desktop app, as that might provide a solution short term.

Sonos does not push for compatibility with Beta software. When the software become official, they begin working to make the app compatible and that can take weeks or months.

Knowing that Sonos will soon retire the desktops apps is reason enough not to upgrade to any software that is in its Beta stages right now. Stick with what works instead.

Hopefully Sonos will begin to add more functionality to the web app and create a better user experience for us.

Try “Phonos Ultimate” from the App Store.

Try “Phonos Ultimate” from the App Store.

Sounds like an amazing app. I’ll bet its developer is one incredible guy.

Thanks for the suggestions. Just an update, deleting app and preferences and re-installing did not work. App still can't find system on network.

Downloaded Phonos Ultimate and we’ll give that a go!

As has been stated here, and in many other threads, Sonos doesn’t chase beta’s of OS releases. Just too many potential changes that occur over the betas, requiring too much programmer time to do so.

This is likely a compatibility issue with the macOS Golden Gate Beta rather than your network or firewall settings. Beta versions often break discovery services used by older or “vintage” apps like Sonos. Until Sonos updates the app for compatibility, there may not be a reliable fix. Rolling back macOS or using the web app temporarily is usually the only workaround in these cases.

Phonos doesnt seem to work either, I cannot get it to appear on the local network page to allow access

That certainly points to an issue with Apple’s Beta, and not Sonos’ or Phonos’ use/access of the data. Have you contacted Apple?

I have, and I’m not the only one. See https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/814226?login=true

Reading that linked topic I have a desire to find the Apple poster and smack some of the attitude out of them. It did reinforce my old decision to avoid Apple as a user or developer though.

Why is this thread regarding a OS beta still getting comments? It’s clearly stated in the link that beta OS’s are not supported by Sonos. That’s clear as glass to me. Please don’t be a smart “_” and start referencing opaque and/or tinted glasses or various glass like materials.

We are bored and it is a slow day?

There seems to be a tendency to assume that the larger company is faultless.

i can understand why developers would not want to waste time keeping up with Apple betas. I was working with another App ( not associated with SONOS ). The author was keeping abreast with the Apple beta code in his own betas and everything was set for release. Unfortunately, Apple made an unannounced change a couple days before release. These changes broke some 3rd party Apps. Naturally, Apple’s own Apps had been updated.. This resulted in the 3rd parties getting bad press claiming that the 3rd parties were inept.

Because if Apple don’t get told by enough users/developers that this feature is broken, they wont fix it before 27 releases. And then you’ll complain.

This isn’t a “developer needs to fix their app” issue, this is “Apple need to fix their OS”.

What are you talking about “And then you’ll (I’ll) complain?”  I know it’s an Apple problem and never alluded that it was a Sonos and/or developer issue.
