I was able to at least skip back and forth on the Gear S2 (it's not Android, for anyone who suggests that), but I just set it up to a Verizon S7 Edge and now the watch only sees the Google Music app, no longer Plex nor Sonos. It must be a Verizon thing.
The default music controller on the gear s2 shows the album art and allows forward and back track control.
I am on a T-Mobile S8 with a Gear S2 and the stock Music Player does not work. A Samsung S7 on T-Mobile did work, an S7 on Verizon did not work, and a Pixel on all carriers, does work. The exact same watch was set up with all devices.
