I love your product but hate that I can't airplay my Mac to it. Now I have to have a second set of speakers in my office

Airplay 2 support is being worked on. It is expected this year, but no details yet.

@jgatie do you know if this will be a software update? Will it "just work" on a Sonos one?

This will surely be a software update. The only time you won't see a software update is if the change is only in 'the cloud'. I can't imagine airplay 2 is going to stream from your phone to sonos through the cloud.

Saying that, it does not mean a software update is going to large or have much effect on other functionality.

It would have to be an update, in my opinion. There would have to be some sort of software changes that need to be applied to the speakers so that they can receive and process the signal from the Apple devices. I agree with melvimbe, it would be extremely odd if you were to have to send the music from your Apple device up to the cloud, and then have it stream back down to your Sonos devices. Double bandwidth use, which would be unconscionable, and against every implementation that Sonos has done to date.

Not to mention the UI changes to the client, which most likely aren't in yet.

There are some really good 3rd party options out there to allow for AirPlay. The best ones are based on 'AirConnect'. Worth some digging to get it working.
AirPlay 2 is coming... but it hasn't yet been added to the iOS platform. It was originally going to be in 11.3, but it was removed because it wasn't working properly. So until Apple gets it out the door, Sonos probably won't have access to development.

Another option would be to consider getting a Play:5 or Connect/Amp that offers a "line in" for your Mac / PC.

In case you can't find the AirConnect software mentioned above, it's at: https://github.com/philippe44/AirConnect. I can recommend it if you have the required technical know-how to set it up. Allows direct Airplay to any of my Sonos speakers, as shown in the Sound menu from one of my Macs (every output option with a '+' after it):

Airplay 2 on Sonos will be nice when it arrives. Once Apple figures out how to make it work, that is.
