I upgraded my system to the S2 app and everything seems to be working well (speakers, mobile apps, PC desktop controller on main PC) except for the Desktop Controller on my laptop. It’s an older Dell laptop running Windows 7 that I stripped of most of it’s programs and pretty much only use for Zoom, Sonos and occasional web browsing. It was working fine with the old S1 controller, and said that the new controller was installed “successfully”, but every time I open the S2 app it acts like it’s booting up for 5-10 seconds and then gives me a popup that “Sonos Desktop Controller has stopped working” and gives me the options to “Check online for a solution” or “Close the program”. Neither option has solved the problem and both ultimately result in the program closing. I have deleted the old S1 controller and tried deleting the S2 app and reinstalling but the same result… Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks for any help,

Wesley

What does “View problem details” say?

I don’t understand what these mean but here they are (it won’t let me “grab” the window so I had to clip it in 2 different pics)…

When I Googled it I was taken to an oddly specific link:

  https://hasstoppedworking.com/fix-clr20r3-event-issues/

Any idea whether the “PC Repair Tool” is safe?

Don’t do that. I would start with uninstalling the Sonos app, checking Windows Update for anything .NET related especially, then reinstalling it.

What Windows version are you on? There have been reports of problems with 2004.

Thanks for the input controlav. I’m out of town at the moment but will try updating Windows and reinstalling when I get home.

I’m running Windows 7

Oh, you’ve got bigger problems if you are using Windows 7. It might need a .NET update that is not available for an unsupported operating system.

Darn. It’s an older laptop that I stripped of everything else and mainly use for Zoom and controlling Sonos. I’m not sure it has the processing power to handle Windows 10  :(

Strangely enough I have another old PC that is also running Windows 7 and working fine with S2…

Thanks for the help anyway.
