Is there any way to revert back to the last app before the recent update? This latest update is just plain stupid.
My phone is main access point for Sonos playlists etc. Had a forced update this morning when adding a new Play1..

How many who have gone back to 7.4 APK have lost a lot of functionality when all hardware is udated to the latest firmware?.

I reverted to V7.4 on my Android phone. I lost no functionality that I am aware of. My PC is still running V8 (which doesnt seem to be any different to V7.4 to me) and so I assume that if I did need to access some particular function that was no longer available on my phone then I could just do so from my PC.

Thanks, will give it a go!.
Reverted to 7.4 here too. I could just about cope with the new UI but every time I switched rooms I lost all music services including my local music library. If I re-added one, they would all come back.

Very disappointed with V8, I would be shot if I let software out of the door in this state.
Just tried 7.4, I've lost room settings for surround etc so looks like I'm stuck using 8.0.

All because I bought another Play1, wish I hadn't bothered now...
Had sonos for ~4 years now, I just setup my Sonos account so I could add my voice to this thread.

This update to the mobile apps is HORRIBLE! I have to stumble through commands to decide whether I am group rooms together or working on a new room, it takes about 3 tries to choose the right sequence to find my Sonos Favorites, or choose a new music service for the right room/group.

And... White default background is horrible for many reasons. Please go back to the more simplistic setup, and provide an alternative to White!
I sent a support ticket in that went as such:

Can I roll back my sonos app? The new update is terrible, I know your development team must of worked hard on this but I have been using the previous style for over 5 years then to see this whole shift without minor updates. The new format is terrible and VERY HARD TO WORK WITH. I spent a small fortune on my setup and would like to have the choice to roll back a version if I want to...

SONOS TEAM - please help us get back to normal. I wouldn't be upset normally about this but I have over 9 speakers and I feel I should be heard as this is VERY frustrating.... Please let us know we can roll back?!

Thanks,

G
OR why not just keep using the PC app - that has stayed the same..... although I bought Sonos so I could use my phone and not PC.....
My tablet is so bright with the white back ground. So much for relaxing with the lights dimmed. Good thing I can use the Spotify app.
I have to agree... The new update makes things a lot harder to access... Sonos' strength was it's intuitive interface... They got worse with the update that just automatically adds a clicked song to your queue without giving you the option menu of what you want to do with it... Then this update totally made them tank.. I have 16 Sonos pieces in my place, which has made me a Sonos specialist. This is why I can break down clearly why the update fails logically... Sonos, you had a great thing going but you're getting closer to committing suicide with each update.. Listen to these users... Like some in this post, I created a profile just to let you know how disappointing this update is...Give me a call so I can help with constructive feedback.. I want to stay a fan of Sonos but you guys are making it hard.. I definitely don't look at Sonos the same way after this update
There is nothing wrong with the logic of version 8. In fact it is not much changed from 7.4. The faults are mostly in the visuals, such as icons too big and lack of contrast.

But the biggest flaw is not having the Sonos bar visible on the Now Playing screen. If it were there, then you would have a simple way of getting in one click to things that are essentially the same as in 7.4, and whose logic proceeds the same from that point.

So I remain convinced that the solution is to fix the problems with 8.0, not go back to 7.4.

I think Sonos should have got this 'more right first time'. But I shall judge 8.1 or 8.2 against 7.4. They need to come fairly quickly though

Couldn’t agree with you more. I have 18 Sonos myself and will not be buying anymore until Sonos returns to being easy to use-not just for longtime members but for new people who used to be able to pick up a controller and know what to do without a forum to explain it to them

I agree with John B. 8.0 is clearly a work in progress but it can and will be much better than 7.4. I've been using like everybody else and will be more than happy when they iron out the obvious issues

You know what WASNT a work in progress? 7.4. Didn’t need to be a work in progress.
I am also not happy with the new update. I have 9 sonos units and while I could view them all on two screen, I now have to scroll through 4 or 5. The grouping is confusing as the units drop off the list (where the heck is my kitchen grouped as I click on several existing groups to find it)? The white background is awful. The way to change the music source is equally confusing. Please please please resort back to the old app. It was much better!
If people cannot tell the difference between logical organisation and flow on the one hand and visuals on the other, there is nothing I can do about that. Sonos will not and should not go back to 7.4. They will make v8 better. I am signing off on this topic now because life is too short....

You are right-the dozen or so threads are just from simpletons who don’t understand basic navigation on software.

You should write a book

They shouldn’t have to explain how things work. That’s the point. That’s the problem. That’s what the difference of being intuitive and not. If it was it would just “work”. This isn’t happening
If you are downloading the old APK, you should note that when your controller app is not the same version as your hardware, you will lose much of the Settings menu. This includes adding/editing Sonos devices, music service management, and adding or updating your music library, Even if all your versions are equal and you never update again, external changes will eventually cause music service support to drop off, such as what happened to folks frozen at version 4.x when the BBC changed codecs, Spotify changed APIs, or Sonos changed authentication security on AWS. Also, if you are frozen at a previous version, even if the version numbers match across the software and hardware, there is no way you can add any new Sonos units to your system without upgrading.

So one may want to assess if losing these functions (and eventually rendering the controller useless) is worth reverting back to an older version of the app. It may just be the case that ripping the band-aid off now is better than later, but that is up to the individual.

Oh yes, WELL worth any loss of Settings menus!!!
The new update is a big step backwards. Frequently used actions like changing rooms is now much more cumbersome and at times just plain doesn't work. I have a wall mounted tablet as the main control. From what was a subtle dark UI, I now have a garish and obtrusive screen. I'm the techie in the family and I struggle with it. Other members of the family have gone from frequent Sonos users to just playing music from their phone speaker. Not good.
Help can't get past this screen after roll

back
Please bring back the old Sonos!!! I appreciate the update but it's absolutely nutty. Not user friendly or intuitive for people who have been using Sonos for years. The blinding white screen destroys any chill mood your currently in. I waste so much time thumbing at all options and re thumbing them by accident. Trying to manage multiple rooms quickly is dang near impossible. I'm happy to see I'm not the only one who wants the Sonos we fell in love with back. Baby, come back!!!
Also really struggling with new version of the app. Really liked the old version. What’s worse, new version doesn’t actually let me play favorite stations in iHeartRadio, just shows me what they are.
Sucks is being way too nice. What bunch of idiots did the market research?
Family and me have suffered on the new UI on ios and Android long enough. It is frankly just dreadful. The fact anyone has to even ask how to use it is a fail. Basic design flaws. Room changing is a frequent use case, regrouping room once set for house is an infrequent use case (unless you party everyday?). Everyone is regrouping in error. You read from the top, so the navigation (select first) should be at the top if needed to change at all from last version. Seems the change is for change sake and there is no benefit that I can see. Previous UI changes were not a problem, this once is a disaster. Come on Sonos, put your hands up...roll it back and stop dreaming that it will grow on people, you got this one wrong and everyone makes mistakes. I think someone literally read requirement for UI that is So Nos!
