How to rip my old CDs to play them in my Sonos system. iTunes won’t let that work. Would using an mp3 player allow me to do this!

Are you a Mac or PC based user?
Most MP3 layers are just that: players. They won’t rip CD’s. Your Pc will though, even with iTunes: https://support.apple.com/en-ie/guide/itunes/itns2935/windows
I use EAC to rip my CD’s to FLAC, which is lossless: https://www.exactaudiocopy.de
Ripping CD’s is a lot of work, so I’d advise you not to go to lossy MP3’s, but use a lossless format.
I’d say more tedious than a lot of hard effort, but I do agree with
Meant “players” instead of “layers”.
