Hello guys.

We have been quite happily living in the S1 world, not seeing a reason to move to S2. However our venerable Home Theatre System has decided to die. So we think that we might replace it with a Beam (our heads won’t less us buy an ARC as we don’t actually watch that much TV). We might need to hit eBay or similar to replace a Gen 1 Connect but that is a minor concern

3 questions

  1. We have lost track of progress on the S2 App. What features, if any, available in S1 have still not been implemented in S2?
  2. We have pairs of Play3, Play1 and One SL any suggestions as to which we should use as surround speakers?
  3. Which? Magazine in the UK doesn’t rate the Beam - can they be safely ignored?

Thanks for any thoughts

  1. None that I’m aware of.
  2. I’d use the most recently produced, I.e the pair of Ones.
  3. As suggested above, the Beams are relatively similar. The only benefit is the Beam 2 simulates Atmos, I don’t think the Beam one can, due, most likely, to processor capabilities, but that’s a guess.

If the Beam is just for TV consider leaving the rest of your system on S1, all you'd be giving up is Grouping through Beam with your existing gear.

Any of your choices for surrounds are good, as they have less demand on them than independent speakers I'd lean to the Play 1s.

Beam gen 1 or the improved gen 2 are both good choices. I have 3 gen1 Beams in secondary Rooms that I have no intention of replacing.
