I just purchased two (2) Sonos moves and paired them together as one speaker. Moving the volume control on my iPhone does not affect the volume at all. I can only change the volume manually on the actual speakers.

There is a setting in the app: Settings, App Preferences for a toggle on/off to select Hardware Volume Control.
