If your saved SoundCloud tracks are suddenly refusing to play, you aren’t alone! Here is a quick heads-up on what’s going on and how to easily fix it.

The Issue
SoundCloud rolled out some backend system updates on Wednesday, March 11th. Because of these changes, any SoundCloud tracks you saved to your Sonos Playlists or Sonos Favorites before that update are now pointing to broken, outdated links.

If you are running into this, you’ll likely see generic error messages in the Sonos app, such as:

  • “Could not play [name of song]. Try again.”
  • “Failed to play content. Try again.”

The Fix
The good news is that your music isn’t gone; you just need to refresh the links. Here is the workaround:

  • Delete the affected track(s) or playlist from your Sonos Favorites or Sonos Playlist.
  • Search for the content again in the Sonos app.
  • Re-add it to your favorites or playlist.

It is a bit of a manual process to recreate them, but doing this will update the links and get your music streaming smoothly again.

This does not solve my problem. I went from not being able to play certain Liked tracks from Soundcloud to none of them being "encoded correctly". I removed SoundCloud as a favourite service, and uninstalled and reinstalled both the Soundcloud and Sonos apps on my Pixel and all liked SoundCloud tracks are dead to me on Sonos.

Seems like some sort of communication issue between your Sonos speakers and the SoundCloud server.

What did Sonos Support say, when you called in to discuss the issue?

I did not contact support. I found another thread where someone advised to reboot everything including the WiFi router.

I rebooted and reinstalled everything again except for the Sonos network I created. All SoundCloud content is working fine now.

I suppose it depends on what is causing the issue. Unfortunately, many different types of issues can manifest across a network, and while showing up as the same, the root cause might be different.

I’m happy you were able to resolve it.

I was having a similar problem.

I deleted Soundcloud from my Sonos services, reinstalled and Activated the account again.

It all works as it should now.

I am having the same issue with Soundcloud and this did not fix the problem.  I cannot play any tracks on soundcloud through the sonos app “not encoded correctly”.  I have tried deleting the app through sonos and reconnecting but there has to be a fix.  I have literally play all my music through soundcloud on my sonos system for over 5 years and now I cant.  Please help!

Perhaps this is a good time to submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

SoundCloud plays OK here.  I’m in the US.  Just now tested it.  Have not used it that much.  Apparently I created two playlists some time ago.  That’s what I’m playing now.
