If playing from Amazon the queue is no longer in use. I can load the queue from Apple music, but cannot find a way to play that queue and stop Amazon….

Click/tap on the first track in the queue.
(You presumably mean playing from Amazon via Alexa or casting. Playing Amazon directly in the Sonos controller obviously requires the queue.)
