Feature Request: Play and add to queue option for entire folders within music library

Dear Sonos App Dev Team,

please add the feature to the Sonos app to play and add to queue all songs contained within a folder of the music library. This feature gives massive flexibility and was already included in the app version before the changes of May 2024.

Please fix it, 4 months have passed since you killed this feature without reason.

Best,

Elias

Queue management is meant to be available this month or early next.

Hi @ecamoz

Welcome back to the Sonos Community!

Although @Rhonny is correct in saying that queue functionality will be returning soon, I cannot say whether this would be applied to Music Library folders as they do appear to be handled differently now.

Thank you - I've marked this thread as a feature request and it will be seen by the relevant teams for consideration. Keep the ideas coming!

Add my vote to  this to @Corry P ! (14 year Sonos user, heaviliy missing this feature)

Positive note: on the roadmap it shows that Music Library Album Art is coming back to Android App!

It is not a feature request it is a must have. Queuing music folders was a great feature in the app before the May release, so be pragmatic and smart, just release it back to the new app asap. We have waited too long now already.

Play and add to queue option for entire folders within music library, for me it's a "must have". Thanks Elias fornthe request

Yes, any update on it being on the roadmap of 2025 @Corry P ?
Small feature (Windows app can still do it), big group of happy customers!

Thanks a lot!

Hi @CanisLupusNL

Feature request updates don’t really happen, I’m afraid, The first either of us will hear about it will be if it shows up one day.

@Corry P If it only were a feature request….

This essential functionality was present in Sonos controllers for over 10 years, and was killed in the May 2024 update of the mobile apps. Crazy enough, it is still working in the Windows app.

Super simple: be able to Add a Music Library Folder (+subfolders) to queue.
I cannot imagine that this would be more than 1 day of work for the development team...

Absolutely agree, it is outrageous how key existing app features were killed over night and it takes months to put them back on. For Sonos apparently customer is slave and NOT king/queen!

because the choice to buy a sonos product, for many of us, was also dictated by the potential that the system had to manage libraries on nas.

If I had to choose today, I certainly wouldn't buy Sonos

Which other systems exist that are better at supporting users with NAS? Since Sonos is not caring about how to make their product better by reading these threads, we should use this platform to exchange on which Sonos competitors there are and which are actually offering a better product.

Meanwhile, perhaps just simply generate a .m3u playlist for the folder(s) you wish to play - it just takes a few minutes only to do that.

I would do a few playlists at a time as admittedly it means a re-index of the library too in the new Sonos App. It at least works and it’s an easy workaround whilst waiting to see if the feature request is implemented - use your own playlist creator App to sort it (or it can be done manually in a text editor, but that can take a lot longer). I use MediaStreamer to generate my library folder(s) based playlists, but maybe use whichever App you prefer.

@Ken_Griffiths I really like the idea of M3U playlist, but this covers only a small part of the need to be able to queue local folders.

My NAS music is organised in +/- 20 Genre folders, with then the albums in there (Artist - (Year) - Album Title)

Browsing those folders would be my main way to navigating Music Collection, as I would browse my CDs and Vinyl in my physical collection.…

Hopefully a Sonos developer with some pride will pick this up one day. In that regards, I am happy to see the changes in Sonos management and the letter of the interim CEO.

“Adding to queue and playing next: early June”

So, I guess that was only a partial restoration of the features we have been using for over a decade since it doesn’t work with the music library?  Or is this for June 2025?

I can use the Desktop PC App to add songs from my music library to the end of the queue or play next or replace the queue, etc.  But not the still broken mobile app.  This is a request to continue to restore the app’s previous functionality, not a “feature request”, just to be clear.

And I’m not interested in making a M3U playlist every time I want to add a random song to the playlist and there’s no way I’m suggesting to my wife or my friends who often use my system.  And I don’t want to tell them to drag a PC around to do it either.

After almost 8 months, this app is still not back to normal.  I always said there’s no way they get it fixed in 2024, if ever, but I’d have preferred to be wrong about that.

They brought these back in Sep/Oct IIRC. Try deleting and reinstalling the app and see if the features are enabled.

I think @stevepow is specifically addressing that this does NOT work when you're browsing Folders in the Music Library, unfortunately… :(
Hopefully we can get this before June 2025...

FYI both of my Windows apps can do this. As can the Sonos Desktop app.

This confirms that it is CRAZY that the official Sonos Android and iOS apps CAN NOT do it… 🤪

Probably it’s some work still in progress?…  Sonos have said that there is still work to do around local libraries this year. See attached.
