Let's talk about Sonos Connect, Connect:AMP, Sonos AMP, and setups using Sonance architectural, or your own speakers and components.

Has anyone tried the outdoor enclosure for Connect:AMP made by Altelix? It seems to be just the solution I’m looking for but I can’t find any reviews and it’s not inexpensive. I need a waterproof (rain, NEMA 12) enclosure which this seems to be but this particular model is apparently not NEMA rated: https://www.altelix.com/Outdoor-SONOS-Connect-Amp-Enclosure-p/nps17.htm
Last Black Friday I bought the Best Buy Connect:Amp + Sonance Outdoor Speaker bundle. Like many, I would like to watch tv/movies in addition to listening to music outdoors. I know the new Amp handles this specifically. And I realize that the Connect:Amp is not well suited to receive audio from a TV (no HDMI in, just two RCA in jacks) and those who have tried experience a lag, however I’m wondering if anyone has tried something like this HDMI to HDMI + Audio (SPDIF + RCA Stereo) Audio Extractor Converter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BIQER0E/ I’m thinking of sticking a Fire Stick or running an HDMI from my laptop into it, and splitting the video to HDMI to an outdoor monitor or projector and the audio to RCA into the Connect:AMP (outdoor speakers). Thank you in advance for your help.
So I have hooked up the new Amp and given it a thorough listening. I am impressed. My prior setup was B&W 683 Floorstanders into a Audiolabs MDAC Pre/DAC to a Bryston 3B-ST Amp. My streamer of choice was a RPi3B+ running PiCorePlayer and the Squeezelite software attached via USB to the MDAC. I was a longtime Spotify user but I recently switched to using Apple Music while my wife still uses Spotify. Spotify had a squeezebox plugin so it worked well (though the Spotify Connect implementation was flaky at times). I also have over 1000 CDs ripped to ALAC on a home server. This was a great sounding setup but I found the airplay unreliable and no native Apple Music support (other than airplay) with Squeezebox so I have been looking at other options. Since native apple music support is limited to Sonos, it was an easy choice, I just had to choose what to get. I considered just getting the Connect and adding it into the existing system via optical to the DAC but decided to ta
Currently I have the Sonos amp paired with BW 685 S2, and a Def Tech Pro sub 800, which are sounding great. In terms of speaker upgrades available to me in the future, what would you consider the top/best speakers that you’d pair with the Amp before you’d have to consider a much more expensive amp or something different? What logically works with it and takes full advantage of the speaker in the top end for the Amp? I know the 685s S2 are going to be much lower on the audiophile totem pole, even though they are good speakers, there is a lot of room in the amp it seems for more as well. You can answer subjectively, or even objectively - like if a speaker pair is over a certain budget, like $2k, chances are it may outclass the amp, etc. Just curious what the ceiling is.
I have 3 x Sonos (Play:1, 3 & 5) & a Bridge and would love to get some bluetooth wireless headphones to link up to the Sonos. However, all the discussion I've seen so far is to do with a Connect. I don't have that and don't intend to purchase one at £350! I have a Bridge. Is there any way to get wireless bluetooth headphones to work to what I have?
I’m curious if any of the members have owned “Hifi” amps and have switched over to the new Sonos Amp. How does the Sonos Amp perform? I own vintage Mcintosh amps in two setups currently. Thanks for you opionions. Sorry if this has been discussed, new member here.
A speaker was stolen from my system and I was wondering if I can find out the last time the speaker was connected to the system so I can inform the police and check my CCTV.
Hi all I have the bar, woofer and 2 sonus 1’s at the rear of the room. Works great until I put sky q on then the sounds normal ie no bass and the back speakers don’t work. Any advice would be appreciated !!
Anyone have installation tips with a wall volume knob for the sonos amp and ceiling speakers?
I have 2 connectAmps with solid amber fault lights. See diagnostic 8274178.
Hello, I have unfortunately had a second component fail just outside of warranty. A Sonos: Connect. RMA cost is £250, or I can pick one up on eBay for £180. I had a search online but couldn't seem to find an answer. If I use the Sonos RMA process to get a replacement, is the replacement covered by a warranty? Thanks
Hi All Just want to share my opinion on the performance of the Sonos Amp when used with 3rd party speakers (Definitive Technology BP 20’s aka Def Techs) and a Sonos Sub. My original setup used a Definitive Technology 1500 Powered sub in conjunction with the Def Tech speakers. As a bit of history I originally purchased the Def Tech components (for just over $2.5K-USD) in the early 90’s. Music was still available on vinyl. CD’s were just coming into their own. Streaming was unheard of. I tell you this so that the younger audience will understand that the stress to deliver audio via an analog source was less taxing on the materials used in the construction of the tweeters, mid-range and low-end speaker components than the audio produced from today’s recordings and streams in full digital format. Subwoofers required manual tuning by ear to get the most out of them without blowing then up. 😛 Fast forward to today. The Sonos Amp had no trouble driving the Def Tech BP
Single ceiling speakers (already bought) being used in the bathroom and kitchen. I need to sum the stereo signal for those, as I listen to a lot of soul which is 'dual mono' i.e. drums on left, everything else on right. Can the output be set to mono?
Hi, I’m a new owner of two Sonos play one and I’d like connecting them to My new Cambridge Audio 851N. I have an Apple MacBook Air and a Apple Extreme TimeCapsule 3Tbyte, too. I have not succeeded yet. Thank you all
I am considering being a VSX-933 from Pioneer and hooking it up to my Sonos Connect and grouping it in one (large) room with two play:1's - my current AV-Receiver (Yamaha RX-V473) is 7 years old and it causes mild latency (echo effect) with that setup - the DAC is simply too slow - full direct mode will only allow 2 channels out of the 5.1 set up at it sounds rubbish. Anyone out there using a Sonos Connect in connect with and Sonos products in the same group?
Hello ya'll. I purchased two Def Tech aw-6500s and a new sonos amp last month. I will pick up an outdoor TV at the end of the month and hopefully have everything installed by the start of summer. I noticed there were virtually no videos with these speakers and the new amp on you tube, so I made a quick video. see link below (big joy division fan here). https://youtu.be/W8Dvc-_iC0s I hope to have the outdoor tv hooked up and dry run everything before installation. Anxious to see how fast the amp can switch from music to tv. debating if I need to add another set of speakers. I'm assuming it will not be as loud or can the amp handle another speaker for a total of 3?
Hi, I've got a sonos connect connected directly to an integrated amplifier via optical connection. The amplifier has an I build DAC as well. Because if this, I'd like to ensure that I'm bypassing the built-in DAC in the Connect. With my current method of using the optical out on the Connect, am I doing it correctly? Also, I've got my hifi Tidal account connected on the Sonos app. How to I know if I am streaming in lossless?
I have a Sonos 5 and am wondering whether there is a way to connect a CD player to it through Line In. My personal collection is way over 60,000 tracks and so was looking for a way for my wife to easily stick a CD of hers in and play it, if required, without the need for the system's original speakers. The system has the two wired outputs from the system and it to it's own speakers. I can see you can buy bare wire to 3.5mm leads so would two of them in to a 3.5mm splitter then plug in to the Play 5 and work ok? Thanks in advance for any advice.
Hi, I have recently seen talk of TV's looking to drop optical support in favour of HDMI. I understand why this would be the case, however this has me slightly concerned that my Playbase which I purchased only a couple of years ago will be useless in the near future. I was wondering if it was possible to get an adaptor much like Sonos are selling for the Beam but in the opposite direction. ie female optical to male HDMI? Any help would be appreciated! Danny
I have in celing bose speakers and want to connect to Sonos AMP. The speaker wires have 'plug ins' ... How do I connect to SONOS AMP
I've recently setup a new Sonos Amp and noticed that loudness was on by default (as someone has already noted here in a review), and also that the sub was turned on in advanced audio/sub settings despite no sub being connected. I wonder if having loudness on by default is the best option, given that it's possible many users will have relatively high-quality speakers attached to the amp? I also wonder if having the sub setting activated makes a difference to the sound if no sub is connected? I would have thought this setting would be disabled when no sub is connected. At the moment it is possible to toggle this setting. I haven't got around to a listening test to see if it actually makes a difference. Cheers, Peter.
Hi all We installed a Sonus sytem when we built our house 6 years ago. Installed ceiling speakers in 5 rooms (incl outdoor), hardwired to an amplifier Recently, 2 of the 5 rooms will not play music. They are visable, the lights on the controllers appear normal, but not music at all Thoughts? Thanks
I am planning on hooking up four 8 ohm speakers in parallel. My question is how exactly do you wire those in at the back of the amp? Do you use a bi-amp wire or just shove two wires in each terminal? The plan is 8 Definitive Technology AW6500 speakers on 2 Sonos Amps. Thanks.
I'm sure this has been asked before, but does Sonos currently have a portable speaker on the market? One that is rechargeable and weatherproof, so that it can be enjoyed outside?
If you are pairing up a Sonos Amp to run in-ceiling surround speakers with a Playbar, can you use to Amp's HDMI ARC input (from your tv) to control the entire setup? Basically bypassing the optical input on the Playbar. Playbar and Amp would be connected to ethernet switch. Also could your Sub be wireless or would it need an ethernet connection too?
