Someone please explain to me how a system that is working perfectly for months suddenly starts cutting in and out when I add a port (which I have removed).

I have three business grade wifi 7 tri-band wired access points.   It is not possible it’s my wifi.

I have taking just about every other thing on the wifi off to check for that.

It streams sonos radio just fine.

I shifted my music from my NAS to my local machine to stream from there.

I switched from my FLAC library to MP3s.

I am at a loss at what else to do.

I see this happening to tons of people on a regular basis on the forums.  WTF?

You can also turn off Sonosnet altogether.  That option was in the last release.

Since you rule out your local network as a possibility there isn't much we users can do for you.

A diagnostic and a follow-on call to support is likely your best bet.

Seriously - this is the second time you’ve replied to one of my posts - minutes after the post - with basically a reply with nothing useful in it.   How about we wait to see if someone ELSE has ideas?   What use is you telling me ‘call support’.  You think I’m not aware I can call support?  Do you just reply to every post with ‘something’?

I hate forums that keep reply counts or give people ‘kudos’ for merely replying.   This is why real sites have voting on replies so you don’t get noise like this.

You can ignore the counts, I do, the profile settings even let you hide them. The silly forum counts every post, even from years ago which for long time users is a bit odd.

And yes I reply quite often, I keep the forum open in the background and check for new posts as I have time.

I wasn't implying you are not smart enough to call support on your own, without my suggestion. Go back and read what I wrote, "Since you rule out your local network as a possibility" which is very different. Users here have a decent reputation for helping but if the primary cause of issues is off the table there is little users can do.

At risk of offending you further you might ask the forum moderators to take a feature request to the forum developers to add an "ignore / hide user" option which would at least solve your issue with me. Your other forum suggestions are good too, maybe include them?

Have you simply tried rebooting your entire network? You didn’t state that you have tried that.

As far as your access points go, are the radios set correctly to non overlapping channels?

Have you tried hardwiring a speaker or the Port to your network to see if that helps?

Because you have not provided enough information about your network other than the enterprise level APs, if none of the above works, calling Sonos support would be your best bet, as @Stanley_4 suggested.

Are all your Sonos devices on WiFi?  Was the Port on WiFi before you removed it?

The other day I was helping a friend who has a large SONOS system that was having very awkward issues. He also has business grade WiFi. But, there was a LITTLE network configuration issue … .

When troubleshooting, once you've assumed that the issue must be [ … ] or cannot be [ … ], you are likely to be blindsided. If I was playing percentages, I’d bet on your network configuration causing issues, but we cannot rule out WiFi interference or a PORT hardware issue.

SONOS phone support can help.

  • August 1, 2026

If your system is working well without the port and doing nothing more that adding the port brings it to it’s knees, there aren’t a lot of possible causes. It’s either a faulty port or a network issue. But like others have said, you really haven’t included enough info about your set up to really help.

I suggest we leave to their own devices any posters who insult and berate those whom they are seeking out for help.  Nothing good can come from indulging in their abuse.

I have enough problems keeping Sonos stuff in my head, trying to remember folks to avoid, well that is why I asked for the ignore-user option so long ago and so many times.

So far, like my many youthful requests for a pony, results have not been answered. On the pony, make that a hefty horse, I'm old, big and a bit chubby these days.

Ignore feature?  From Gainsight?  Bwahahaha!

I’ll probably get censored or worse but sometimes things need to be said…

Why do people find it necessary to say “l have business grade” or “Enterprise” grade WiFi. That’s an incorrect statement all day long.

Wi-Fi 7(be) or whatever… is WiFi 7(be) in a home or business. It’s a standard set by the WiFi Alliance in conjunction with the IEEE. I’ll leave it to the OP to research those organizations.

My ASUS Wi-Fi 7 AiMesh frequencies (2.4Ghz, 5Ghz and 6Ghz) is the same frequencies as the WiFi 7 in a government agency. The only difference is the hardware. I will allow that a government agency may use a fourth band not available to mere mortals but for everyone else it’s SOP. BTW…No hardware is immune to network issues. So either provide more information about your network or follow @Stanley_4 ‘s and others advice to contact Sonos Tech Support.

Another pet peeve (although not mentioned in this thread) is informing people that one is an “IT Professional” (or other credentialed). Mention of such just begs the question “why are you here seeking advice”. Humility is a virtue.

Things do working perfectly, until they break, most often due to a change. I strongly suspect it could be network related.

I know you have written a Sonos controller, from previous posts (and your username). Here is what I would do:

You have some code that discovers Sonos devices and controls Sonos devices. If I was a coder, I would look to extend my program to provide a ‘Sonos Health’ feature, this could request the support/review pages from each Sonos device, measure latency to each Sonos device, and look at the /sbin/ifconfig section to get some network stats. Poll devices, and show the delta of the packets/traffic/errors for the interfaces on the Sonos devices. Could be displayed on a dashboard type page, which would be opened using a ‘Hot Key’ in your Application, and could help identify any network related issues.

Sonos could do a lot more to aid users in finding and fixing things but it looks like they are only going to provide minimal access, likely a legal department decision.

It would be nice to have an app that collected what little info is available in a single spot (Good grief!) the number of taps to see something as simple as signal strength at each speaker is beyond belief. Oh and you need a scratch pad to note all the scattered information.

Sonos suffers from both legal and marketing issues, both or either of which trump developer's and user's desires.

I think I am on to something.

I have a fairly large house, with 9 sonos speakers.   I recently added a port to my theater room and thought ‘cool it’s near my switch in there so I’ll hardwire it’.

Well...if I understand correctly, that enabled Sonosnet - and that’s what my system was telling me.

Then I noticed my phone would drop wifi in the middle of my house - I have 3 Omada Wifi 7 Tri-band APs.  All hardwired.   There should be no place in this house there is no wifi.

Well...my port is in the middle of the house.   Like a lot of you I am sure, I have a lot of things on my wifi - I suspect that my wifi & Sonosnet were battling it out for the frequency range depending on what was going on - most of my system is SL’s so they are all 2.4.

My current test.  I have disabled two of my APS and left the central one in place. I have disabled the wifi on my port and forced it to be the controller. This has forced my speakers to stop using Sonosnet and use my wifi.

So far, so good.  Zero drop out.  My phone doesn’t drop wifi anymore.   That said, I’ve had the system work fine for a while and then hose up, so we shall see.

I am tentatively optimistic.

I will report back in a few days.

Yessir this is exactly what I have done.  I have added a Topology logging system.  Dig it.

Glad you have found the issue, back to coding now. 😁

See if you can ICMP ping and/or http get on the support review page in your ‘Topology’ section, that could be useful to identify any packet loss/latency issues, that would have shown up with your STP loop when you hardwired the Port.

Unless you have a need for Sonosnet it is really better to leave it disabled.

It is older technology than modern Wi-Fi and less reliable.

It requires a clear 2.4 gHz channel, with only three available that limits your other networks.

If it is enabled you need to deal with all the fallout from having multiple network paths available.

Turning off the internal radio, aka disable Wi-Fi, accomplishes the above as well BUT as it disables the radio it is no longer available for other network functions.

Because these are designed to be managed at a business level give me easier insights into issues - it’s not about their wifi capabilities - it’s about the hardware.  I have a separate central controller box they talk to.  It’s absolutely relevant that these aren’t average POS third party access points.   This is actually me heading off the ‘your ap’s suck’ comments.  I had business grade giganet at one point at a previous house - it mattered and was relevant to any discussion about bandwidth - my packets had priority over residential (though I had it because it got me priority service in an outage - I had a guy out on Christmas day fixing my internet when they cut my cable by accident)

And sometimes I do say what I do for a living - because I want to bypass the basic ‘is your ethernet plugged in’ questions.  That said, I never call myself a ‘software engineer’.  I’m a coder. I think titles are stupid.

So, FWIW, I think the motivation matters.

That all said - I get it.  Pet peeves are called that for a reason.   I despise forums where they count replies and give people titles for it.   It causes people to post and say nothing useful and instead adding noise to a discussion.  Gotta get that count up. (no, this is NOT what I am saying about your post - I’m agreeing with you about pet peeves - that’s simply one of mine)

Anyway, you didn’t offend me.   You make valid points.

Ok so I am calling this the ‘solution’.

Turn off Sonosnet.

It’s kind of insane this was the issue - any sizeable system with a hardwire is going to have it competing with the local wifi.  That’s never a good idea.  It shouldn’t be that hard for Sonos to determine it’s thrashing.

Anyway, maybe this helps someone else.  It probably needs to be the first stop on stuttering that suddenly appears.
