Moderator edit: removed pictures with serial numbers

Other sources suggest that the play/ pause button, and the serial # starting with 2011, would indicate it’s gen 2, possibly made in 2020. But I could be wrong!

Connect to Ethernet. Run “Phonos Plus” from App Store - will tell you which Gen and whether it was bricked by the short-lived update/bricking program.

The serial number (which I don’t think you should be posting) suggests it was built in March of 2015.  Somewhere, if you search for it in this forum, there are dates associated with when they switched over to the ‘newer’ generation of internals. Alternately, you could log in to your account at www.sonos.com, look at your devices, and see if it can accept S2. If it can, it is gen 2.

For those of you  that think posting the serial number is a problem, just ignore it.

I don’t recommend publishing the full serial number because there is some risk of abuse.

In the context of this discussion the only needed detail is the “1503” prefix indicating that the unit was manufactured in 2015 and is S2 compatible.

No dog in that fight but it is a good way to get your post moderated as Sonos doesn’t like to see that information posted.

For others, posting the first part, the manufacturing date 1503 is plenty to answer the version question.

First four: year and month of manufacture

I attempted to edit the post and remove the picture but I see no edit option. Not sure why no edit but that’s the way it is. If an admin wants to remove my post then have at it

The forum software is right out of the 1990s, barely functional in so many areas.

If you think the editing is bad try the search!

The admins are way overloaded and not posting/doing much, do not envy them!

It is not possible for a user to edit a post that starts a thread. Other posts that the user owns can be edited. The edit option is offered in the three dots appearing at the lower right of a post.
