using old Connect:Amp

Your profile shows a Roam 2 and Connect:Amp. If the Connect:Amp is a Gen 1 it will only work on the Sonos S1 app. That said you’ll have an incompatibility issue as the Roam 2 only works on the Sonos S2 (Sonos App). 

If the Connect:Amp is Gen 2 then it and the Roam 2 can work on S2 (Sonos app).

So,...is the Connect:Amp Gen 1 or Gen 2?

If you don’t know follow these steps:

• Go to Sonos.com
• Click on the “Head” icon
• Sign in with your credentials 
• Go to “System”
• See your Connect:Amp and its generation 

After you determine the above...how are you trying to use the Connect:Amp?

Hard to tell, Sonos has never made an ‘emp’. They have made both a Sonos CONNECT:AMP (Gen 1 and Gen 2, although not labeled as such) and an Sonos Amp. There certainly are FAQs that cover setup, but it depends on if you have a gen 1 CONNECT:AMP, which requires an S1 controller, or a later version, which it depends on what previous operating system it was set up on.

More information would help point you in the correct direction. Or, you could call Sonos Support to discuss it.

Unless you have other Sonos Gen1 products I don’t see value in setting up a separate system to run wired speakers on the Gen1 Amp. I suggest looking for a used Sonos Amp that is S2 (Sonos app) compatible. But that’s me. You may have other ideas.

There is only one generation of the Amp, do you mean the older Connect Amp? That would need the S1 controller.

Sonos did us no favors with the confusing names.

I don’t think there was a confusion about there being only one generation of the Amp. The OP answered my original question in short hand (leaving off “Connect”). I just followed in the same manner….but I believe we were both (the OP and I) on the same page of understanding. 😊

As I made my post before the forum showed me yours I had thought to be helpful by mentioning the need for the S1 controller, sorry to have offended you.

What? I wasn’t offended in any manner 😊. My post in reference to yours was just a clarification of thought processes between the OP and I. I believe the OP was responding to my original post (at the top) when they mentioned “Amp”.
