Unable to add a new music library on a new PC

My Sonos multi-room music distribution system is somewhat dated, but working perfectly well. I have just bought a new Windows 11 PC and I want to run Sonos from the music library on this new device. I have shared the library on the network, but the Sonos controller [on my iPhone] will not acknowledge it and will not update the software - It says a couple of my Sonos components are “incompatible...” I don’t want anything new; I just want to continue using my Sonos system as I always have - Can anyone help me?

Thanks, Geof Ashton

Hello @Geof Ashton, welcome to the Sonos Community!

I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble setting up your Music Library on your Windows 11 PC.

A common issue that makes users unable to set up their Music Library is having their network profile set to Public. You need to ensure it’s set as Private.

  1. Open Start Menu (Windows button) and click on Settings.
  2. Select Network & internet and then choose Wi-Fi or Ethernet depending on what internet connection you are using with your PC.
  3. Change Network profile type to Private.

I’m sharing below a tutorial on how to add a Music Library share:

If you would like to share some additional information and screenshots showcasing the issue you are having, it would be easier for me or another Community user to assist you.

You can always reach out to our Support Team as they can guide you to set up your Music Library in real time.

I hope this helps.

PS: Feel free to edit your Sonos Community profile and add the Sonos products you currently have for more visibility.

Hi Sotiris C. Thank you for your response. I’ve tried your suggestion but it has not made any difference. When I try to select “Add a shared Music Library” the option is greyed out. If I go ahead and press it, it tells me to update my software. When I try to do this, I get “Error code 9: Foyer, BOOST

Basically, it is telling me that 2 of my components are “Incompatible.” I take that to mean they are old and no longer supported

OK, but the system is working fine! I don’t want any new features or unnecessary software updates; I just want to carry on using my system as it is, but using a music library from a different PC

Can you help?

Thanks,

Geof Ashton

I'm  not familiar with error 9 but it is described in the support section.

Maybe unplug your Boost and try again?

You might also consider switching to using your wifi instead of Sonosnet.
