TV living room speaker setup; sonance only

This setup will work as you can connect six In-Ceiling speakers as long as you’re using the speakers designed in collaboration with Sonance on Sonos.com, the Sonos Amp would only be able to use a maximum of four if you use any other speaker.

Regarding the actual setup itself. six In-Ceiling speakers all set to dual-mono is a bit overkill in my opinion and, unless you have a very large living room, four or even two should be enough if you space them evenly. If you can provide the dimensions of your living room, then I or a community member can let you know how many you may need.

Also, just to clarify

If you did set up the Amp like this, you wouldn’t have any right or left channels, just speakers wired to the left and right terminals on the Amp with mono audio being sent to all of them. Usually this feature is recommended in large open rooms or for outdoor speakers where the isn’t a set listening position. The setting is easy to toggle, but you may get a better sound experience with dual-mono mode off rather than on.

Your question is if your supposed set up would work. It does work technically if you follow the advice given above.

I would however seriously question if this set up would work in the sense that you'd get sound that should aurally “come from the TV”, come from the ceiling. Especially front speakers should, in my opinion, not be mounted in the ceiling. For rears this is different - while in ceilings are not ideal, placement does not matter as much as for fronts.

There are speakers that can be built into the wall and ceiling. They are not visible. You could place a speaker on each side of the TV and two in the rear. There would be two SONOS AMP’s and four speakers. Note that this arrangement could not fully support DOLBY ATMOS.

Thanks for the information! The living room is 19ft x 37ft.  I assume 4 speakers may be best.  I wanted over kill and maybe have an extra 2 above the kitchen so when I’m in the kitchen I can hear the tv easier without having the volume up high.  Again, wife is a no go on a sound bar visually junking up the mantle tv area since it’ll be a frame tv.  We have an upstairs media room so need for a crazy sound system just good sound to hear dialog for sports and news and such.  Thanks for everyone’s help.

If you want actual surround sound, I’d do two Amps.  One connected to the TV via HDMI powering two in-wall front L/R speakers.  The other Amp could be anywhere, powering two in ceiling speakers above the main listening area for surround L/R.  Then I’d group in a speaker or Amp+in-ceilings to listen to the TV or music in the kitchen.

So the consensus I gathered and route I’m looking at is four speakers run to the Sonos amp in the cabinet.  Then use Trueplay tune to perhaps make a phantom center.  I’m not worried about surround speakers and I know I would need a second to make surround speakers in this set up.  I’m looking for more dialog voice tv watching and not movie theater style.

If I run two speakers to right terminal and two speakers to left terminal of the Sonos amp, then set up using Sonos TruePlay,  would that work and give me a phantom center or should I give in and get two amps ( one amp for two fronts and phantom and on amp for two backs) to guarantee the phantom center?  I’ve never messed with the app and setup before so wouldn’t know.  Reason I don’t want surround is because I want to hear dialog voice clearly from the kitchen
