With a manufacturing date of March 2016, it is either a late Sub (Gen1) or an early Sub (Gen2) which was released around June/July 2016.
The Sub (Gen3) was released in 2020 so definitely not that.

No this belongs to a friend of mine that was going to sell it to me. I ended up buying a Gen3 in white which was exactly what I was after 😃

The Sonos product list under a user’s account online is inaccurate. It can list Subs manufactured in 2014 and 2015 as being Gen 2.
When the black Sub (Gen2) was released in 2016, Sonos marketing stated the internals were the same, it was only cosmetic changes.
”We've made some minor changes to SUB. The cosmetic changes include blacked-out trim and a smaller logo. SUB's sound and hardware components remain the same.”
Interesting, I only have 2s and 4s and both were shown correctly when I looked at my list before posting.
