Sony TV audio to older Sonos system

Hi - for years now I have been able to stream the audio from an Insignia tv via the RCA outputs on the tv to the RCA inputs on my older Sonos gen 1 amps to the various speakers throughout our home. simply plugged in and it works though the “Audio Component” setting in the Sonos 1 app with no problems.

I just replaced the Insignia TV with (an older) Sony XBR55X900A TV.  I have plugged in the same RCA cable into (what I think are) the RCA audio outputs on the back of the Sony, but it is not working.

The RCAs on that TV are all inputs, but there is a 3.5mm audio output that is labeled for headphones.

You need a cable like this one to connect the TV to the Amp.

You can also use the optical output to the Amps input using an adapter like this.

Looking at the manual https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/4457/4457217EM.pdf I can’t see any RCA outputs from the tv; only inputs. There is an optical output (see page 15).

Bleh, I’m not fond of using a variable output like one labeled ‘headphones’. Make sure you set the volume to at least 50%, so the Sonos can ‘see’ enough to grab on to.
