BLUF: Upgrade your HD HomeRun to the latest firmware.
Just putting this out there after spending the better part of two days troubleshooting sync/garbled audio issues on my 8-zone S1 setup.
System has worked great for over 10 years on the current network, then one day this week started having crazy network problems when playing out from a zoneplayer, especially if I grouped zoneplayers.
Wireshark showed massive amounts of IPV4 and IPV6 Multicast DNS (MDNS) frames sourced from my HD Homerun, which didn’t make any sense since HD HomeRun has nothing to do with my music setup. Anyway, after thoroughly investigating switch configs, I had a look at the HD Homerun FW release notes. My FW was from 2024, and as it turns out sometime in 2025 they released an update that fixed “compliance issues for MDNS”. I upgraded the HD Homerun to the latest 2026 FW and problem solved. I would not’ve known to susspect the HD HomeRun without the packet capture.
