SONOS PORT VS SONOS AMP - Marantz Receiver

I have a Marantz SR6014 with 3 Sonos amps already installed across 3 zones. I added a Sonos Port to the receiver so that I could stream music through my TV surround as an additional zone (added to the phono rca connections) however the sound is not very clear and even after adjusting the eq etc, still a little muffled. My question is, if I replace the Sonos Port with another amp, would it sound better? Could I just hook it up to the rca ports on the receiver, or is there a better way for optimal sound?

Maybe I’m missing something in your post. However, the consensus seems to be that your question involves a Turntable. I’m not getting that impression.

What I understand your issue to be is that you are trying to connect a Sonos Port (RCA-Line-out) to the Marantz Phono Input. That connection will not work.

You should be connecting the Ports (RCA-Line-out) to one of the Marantz’s RCA Line-In ports in the yellow outline.  My apologies if I’ve totally misunderstood your post.

Do you have a phono preamp between the turntable and Port?

It provides necessary conversion between phono levels and standard input levels as well as the RIAA equalization  necessary for the sound to be listenable.

I would not use the phono input as the source for the Port in your environment. I would use The Cable/Sat input or the CD input for that, which are line level inputs. You are probably introducing a lot of distortion into the Marantz by using the phono input, which would explain why it does sound muffled.

Phono RCA inputs perform RIAA equalization on the input, which compensates for limitations in vinyl to allow for longer records.  You cannot use a phono input with Line-Level output, you will get a distorted signal.  You can only use a phono input with phono output from a turntable.

In this application connecting the turntable directly to the Marantz SR6014 will introduce some operational issues that will frustrate anyone attempting to operate the turntable.

I recommend installing a phono preamp between the turntable and PORT. Connect PORT’s Line-Out to any receiver input except phono.

Note that the turntable will not automatically be connected to PORT’s Line-Out. You must select the turntable as PORT’s input.
