I have purchased over 11 speakers so I’m a bit concerned that I can’t find a quick answer.   My Play 5 starting making a static news while on or off?   I disconnected...Moved to a different room...reconnected and it’s the same issue.   While off the static news is low...while playing the static news is more pronounced.  

 

Can this be repaired?

By “news” I assume you mean “noise”. However, you typed “news” each time so maybe you’re referring to something else? 

I suggest you submit a diagnostic and post the reference ID this thread. Then call Sonos tech support to discuss your issue and a possible remedy.
