Hi, please can you help me, I have recently installed ceiling speakers and they sounded incredible, until I asked the decorator to paint them to match the room.. they now sound terrible and like they are under water, Anyone have any suggestions please?
(they are paintable)

Thank you

Is there perhaps a photograph of the speaker grill/covers close-up. I’m wondering if the decorator has perhaps blocked-up the holes in the grill/covers with paint and that’s why they now sound muffled.

If they used the same paint they used on your walls it was likely too thick and as Ken suggested blocked the holes the sound comes out of.

If it is latex paint and fairly new you can likely strip it off with something like Goof-Off without damaging the original paint.

Repaint them using the same paint but thinned out a great deal and applied in multiple thin coats with an air-brush or the like to get the color on but not block the holes.
