I have the sonos outdoor speakers but it’s not being detected by the Sonos Amp. Any suggestions on what to do? I purposely bought these speakers because of that feature.

I didn’t think Sonance made outdoor speakers in their Architectural line. Which speakers, specifically do you have, I can’t see from that picture? All I can tell is they are co-branded, but not the model. Even a link to the sales page would help, I think.

Here are Trueplay details.

it’s the exact speakers sold on the sonos site that they sell as a bundle: https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/outdoor-speaker-pair

i just got off the phone with support after 45 minutes of switching speaker wire and rebooting all for the dude to tell me it’s a known issue that’s impacting some amps, been unresolved for over a month and has no resolution timeline in sight. that’s such a shady move given they’re selling these things still today. unfortunately i just wasted $600 on these speakers.

From the page that I referenced above:

“An Amp supports Trueplay when using Sonos In-Wall or In-Ceiling by Sonance Architectural speakers with the Amp. It is not available for the Sonos Outdoor by Sonance Architectural speakers.”

that makes no sense because the page clearly says “Optimize Speakers

When selected in the Sonos app, Optimize Sonos Speakers allows Amp to recognize Sonos Architectural speakers then applies custom tuning and DSP to provide more robust sound with a more even frequency response, optimizing system performance and ensuring stable operation.”

also the manual references it. i appreciate you trying to make it a user and not sonos issue though

Trueplay attempts measure and deal with room characteristics, such as reflections from floor, walls, and ceiling. These are not characteristics typically found outside, but we could debate with respect to a partially or completely enclosed area. Once AMP recognizes SONANCE outdoor speakers are connected, AMP characteristics can be adjusted to favor the speakers.

I don’t know if the AMP user interface notifies the user that AMP has recognized that the outdoor speakers are connected.

I just want to know if it should detect the speakers or not. I’ve had these speakers in the past and the amp did recognize them, but now it doesn’t. All the marketing material says it should and the customer support person says there’s an ongoing issue on the Sonos side, but I can’t find the information anywhere.

For a >$1000 speaker package there should be a clear yes or no answer.

@lsudaddy

I think we have to separate trueplay feature and „Audio enhancements“ described in the manual you posted above.
As @buzz already said trueplay is not supported for Sonos Architectural Outdoor speakers.

But if you scroll down on the product page, you will find the following information.
https://www.sonos.com/en-gb/shop/outdoor-speaker-pair-black

So my understanding is that there is an option „optimize Sonos speakers“ within Sonos app, if Sonos Amp is connected to the Sonance Architectural Outdoor Speakers.
Did you find such an option to select?

I‘m not sure how to read it… the faq section says „Sonos Amp will automatically detect these speakers and optimize the sound“.
So asking myself if there is an option to choose or if everything is done automatically in the background.

yeah i dont care about trueplay, i only want the ability to optimize the speakers which everything i’m reading says it should do

that option is there, yes, but it doesn’t detect the speakers when i select it.

Is an error message returned?

after the 15th ish try, it then says it detects a speaker mismatch, however both my speakers have the same serial number

@lsudaddy

Ok, imo that’s looking like a bug or a broken speaker dongle.
I recommend calling Sonos support, running a diagnostic and clarifying if it’s a software or hardware issue.

they did, which i mentioned above where they said its a known issue. that being said though are the open issues tracked somewhere for the public to see? otherwise i’d have no idea if/when they fixed it unless i ran the optimize speaker setting everyday until it worked.

There is no public tracking for bugs. Probably best to run it after each update and watch the release notes. Complain here often and a mod might take pity and offer to notify you.

so the summary is: spend $1k for an advertised feature, realize it doesn’t work and then remember to run a config setting every now and then to confirm if the setting you paid $1k to get, actually works. got it.

The amp is a good product but if you really want room correction/speaker “optimization” (whatever that is) there are much better options without BS DRM.

when that optimize setting works, the amount of bass those sonance speakers pump out is impressive - that was the entire reason I got the set.

Sounds like running the config every now and then and checking release notes will be worth it. I mean assuming they fix it eventually.

Hey… there seems to be a firmware update now fixing that issue.

Hi @lsudaddy

Thanks for your post!

Earlier replies are correct in stating that the Outdoor Sonance speakers do not support TruePlay functionality.

that makes no sense because the page clearly says “Optimize Speakers

When selected in the Sonos app, Optimize Sonos Speakers allows Amp to recognize Sonos Architectural speakers then applies custom tuning and DSP to provide more robust sound with a more even frequency response, optimizing system performance and ensuring stable operation.”

All Sonance Architectural speakers support Optimise Sonos Speakers, but that does not refer to TruePlay Tuning specifically, though when OSS is applied to In-Ceiling or In-Wall speakers, TruePlay Tuning is included in this.

Outdoors speakers cannot be corrected for spatial differences in the room as there is no room to adjust for.

I hope this helps.

Edit: Optimize Sonos Speakers has been renamed to Detect Architectural Speakers.
