Does anyone have any experience with connecting Sonos Amp:connect devices to Meraki switches? I have just installed four Meraki switches, replacing some old Netgear switches. One switch acts as the core switch and the three other switches are connected via trunk ports.

RSTP is enabled, core switch has a priority of 0, other switches are set to 12288, 20480, and 28672. STP guard is not enabled on ports.

There are approx 14 Sonos Amp devices on the network with the majority plugged into one of downstream switches. The sonos devices were producing a number of bdpu and loop issues so we disabled the wireless on each sonos device as there is ample cabling. We have also now plugged in the majority of sonos devices into the core switch. We are no longer seeing bdpu or loop alerts but the devices are intermittently disappearing from the sonos controller s1 app (from the rooms view on the app). I have also noticed that I'm unable to ping the devices when this happens but then they suddenly come back online.  The rooms group function is also behaving intermittently where it also seems to cause the devices to drop off.

The sonos devices are in their own vlan. Any help/advise is much appreciated.

Hi @Blueflag, welcome to the Sonos Community!

Sorry to hear you’ve having issues with your Sonos speakers dropping off the system.

I haven’t used or worked with these network switches before, and the only information about Meraki in our system is regarding the Meraki router. If you do have a Meraki router, you should make sure that LAN Isolation is Disabled and that Local LAN under Firewall Rules is set to Allow.

Having all your Sonos devices on their own VLAN isn’t a supported setup as we require the controllers and speakers to be on the same subnet, the first thing I and our support team would suggest would be to change this as a troubleshooting step. From the sound of your system, this seems like a professional setting rather than a home network. If I’m wrong then feel free to ignore this, but if so, I’d recommend Sonos Pro as that team are here to handle larger professional networks for businesses.

I hope that by me replying, other community users may come into this thread with their suggestions and advice regarding the Meraki switches.

Hi Jamie,

thanks for getting back to me. The Sonos Amps and the iPhone S1 Controller app are all on the same VLAN. This is a home network but unfortunately the network also contains a range of different network devices (CCTV, Door Access, other networked music systems, Smart TVs) so we use a number of different VLANs to keep everything separate.

We now have the majority of Sonos devices connected to the ‘Core’ switch and the rest on one other downstream switch. We disabled the Sonos wireless on all devices so they are all connected via ethernet cable. They do seem to be more stable now and we can group various rooms without any issues. We did find that the :1400/support/review url was useful in confirming that the Sonos devices were seeing the core switch as the STP root.

If the Sonos devices do install any updates will they seem retain the wireless disabled setting?

In the past that setting has been sticky across updates

Hi @Blueflag

Thanks for the information about your setup and I’m glad to hear you’re seeing the system and grouping without issue after disabling Wi-Fi on the speakers.

As @Stanley_4 suggested, that setting will stable disable after any updates and wont change back unless you re-enable it in the app.

If you have any further issues, please don’t hesitate to reach back out.
