Is it possible to connect Sonos Play 5 gen 1 to Sonos Amp wirelessly.

Yes, but the Amp would have to be running S1.

Hi,

can anyone help me please. I have a connect amp connected to two ceiling speakers and a one speaker upstairs.  I recently purchased an audio-technica turntable and thought I’d be able to connect it, soon realised I can’t to what I have as I do not have the space next to the amp. I’ve just purchased a second hand play 5 gen 1 to connect to the turntable and really would like to connect the whole lot. I understand that I need to reset the amp to connect the play 5 but can’t seem to be able to do this… anyone have any advice please?

many thanks in advance

No, I wouldn’t expect to need to reset any of your existing Sonos. You’d just add the PLAY:5 to your system, and connect the pre-amped turntable to the line in on the PLAY:5 as normal, and could then play that line in on any ‘room’ in your system.

Hi Bruce,

Thank you so much for answering..

I have the original set up on the Sonos 2 app and it won’t allow me to connect the ‘legacy’ play 5 gen 1. The advice I’ve found is that I need to set the connect app and one speaker to reset and therefore back to the Sonos 1 app.
is this not the case?

so currently my set up is…

connect amp and speaker one on Sonos 2 app.

play 5 gen 1 just connected on its own to Sonos 1 app.

turntable not connected to anything (really frustrating)

I’ve also purchased a Bluetooth connector for the play 5 from amazon and that should arrive tomorrow, hoping this will connect to turntable so at least I can play records in one room.

admittedly I’m now getting in a muddle.

really sorry… clearly I’m not very techy🤦🏼‍♀️

That’s a whole other issue, then, trying to mix two operating systems. In all honesty, I’d probably sell that PLAY 5 gen 1, and get a newer device that runs S2, I suspect it will be both easier, and more satisfying In the long run. I have several PLAY:5s of gen 2 that run S2, and all have line ins.

Downgrading your current system to S 1 is complicated, and not that useful

You might need to factory reset the new Play 5.

Make sure you connect to your current Sonos system and then ADD the new Play 5 to it.

Thanks for replying…

Bruce, I thought that might be the case, unfortunately the more expensive of all the options..

Stanley, I’ll give that a go before I admit defeat..
