I currently have  a Gen2 amp running two Bose freespace 51’s for my backyard audio.

I want to upgrade to the Gen3 amp and am considering replacing the Bose speakers with the Sonance Omni-6t 360 degree in ground speakers since the Bose speakers cannot handle the additional watts that the Gen3 amp pushes.

Anyone running this setup?

I doubt the additional power from the new Amp would be an issue unless you deliberately set out to destroy the old speakers. Too little power is more likely to result in damage than too much.

What is a gen 3 Amp? I’d thought there was only one generation of the Sonos Amp, are their differences? How do I tell them apart?

There is/was the Sonos Connect Amp Gen 1 and then Gen 2, both of which were white and silver. There ia now the Sonos Amp, which is technically their third generation amp. This is the one that is available today that is all black.

There were Sonos amplifiers before the Connect Amp series, ZonePlayer. It makes life for us confusing without the "official" Sonos name.
