My Gen 1 play 5 makes a regular thudding noise after about 10 minutes of being turned on, this gradually increases in speed until it becomes continuous, this happens during standby as well as okay back, any help appreciated.

It sounds rather like a hardware fault. I would submit a Sonos system diagnostic report and post it’s reference back here and then contact/chat to the Support Staff (when available) via this LINK,
