Play:1 and Connect Gen 1 or 2?!

Hi!

I have a Play:1 speaker that was connected to my record player a Connect Gen 2 which has stopped working. I’m on a budget and want to replace it, does it need to be a Gen 2 Connect or would a Gen 1 work?

Thanks so much!

If you are running the S2 app, it needs to be a Gen 2 as the Gen 1 is only compatible with the S1 app. But if you are running the S1 app, the Gen 1 will work.

For grouping.

If you’re trying to ‘pair’ (make a stereo pair or surround pair), both devices need to be the same, either PLAY:1s or Sonos Ones. This is mostly a warning for others, however, not really applicable to your use case.

You’ll likely be happier spending the few more bucks for the Gen 2 Connect although the Gen 1 will work if you set your Play 1 back to Gen 1 too.
