Good Morning,

I recently purchased a SONANCE MAG6.1 System w/ a Sonos AMP that I’m planning to setup in my back yard / patio area. I’m having trouble with deciding on the best placement for the 6 speakers+sub.

I was leaning towards just covering the patio area, but may also consider covering some of the other back yard areas as well. With only one AMP in my configuration, however, it seemed like that may not be ideal in terms of adjusting volumes for the different areas of the yard.

Would appreciate any advice you have. Please ignore all the brown grass in the photo - just had lawn irrigation installed a few weeks ago.

This is interesting….

To my knowledge Sonos doesn’t have any speakers made by Sonance that can power six speakers normally associated with in-group placement.

Do the speakers look like those in the link https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/outdoor-speaker-pair-black

Edit

After further research I found a Bestbuy product that uses 6 in-ground speakers with a Sonos amp. However, it goes against the Sonos use-warning in the link below. That said I guess it maybe possible. Sadly I can’t offer any advice on placement.

Given the size of the patio, and that appears to be two seating areas, I would probably keep the sound system just in the patio area.  I’d go with 2 speakers on the left, 2 in the middle, and 2 on the right. The sub in either the middle or the right, depending on preference.

My limited understanding of this system is that it manages to work with the Amp, despite having too many speakers and a sub, because the total ohms presented to the amp is still 8 ohms.  You will need to follow the wiring instructions exactly.

Thanks for the input!

I’m not sure if you could tell from the photo, but the top side and right side of the patio from the perspective of this photo are short walls (about 2’ high), so the middle section of speakers would need to be skewed a bit to the right, near the little walking path area. The only spot on the right side would be between the grill and the house, near the walking path.

I was thinking i could get some posts to mount the speakers on that would lift them above the walls to allow for a more ideal mounting location, but these seem to really be designed for a ground installation. I guess I’ll work with the areas i have and see what it sounds like.

Yep, this is the Sonance MAG6.1 System mentioned in the post title. I think you’re correct that this is really only sold through Best Buy (where I purchased it from).
