Hi everyone!

I have an old Sony sound system that I would like to incorporate into my current Sonos set-up and I am not 100% sure of which components I would need, and how to set-up the connections.

The Sony has two stereo speakers (impedance 6 Ohm & 70W of power handling capacity each) and an interconnected module CD player + cassette player + EQ. (pictures below)

I already own two Sonos Era-100 that have been paired as stereo pair in a room group.

As a minimum, I would like to add the Sony speakers to the Sonos Era-100 room group, so that I could use the SVC to control the music and have it play from both the Era-100 and the two Sony.
To do this I am pretty sure I need to buy the Sonos Amp (can it hold both speakers?) and connect both speakers there, I will also need some adapters but I am not sure which ones yet.

Ideally, I would also like to use the CDs and cassette player as a Line-in option  into my Sonos system.
For that, which Sony output ports should I use: headphones-out (EQ front) , old stereo out (EQ back)  with adapters? Are there other options?
Also, to set the Sony as a Line-in,

  1. can I connect it to the Amp as well?  or
  2. can I connect it to the Era-100?  or
  3. do I need to buy a Port as well?

Do you have any recommendations?

Thank you :)

The most easy way imo would be to use a Sonos Port and just connect it to your existing Sony System like ist is. Therefore you have to check what input and output connections are available on the Sonys amp unit.

@Schlumpf That’s true, but if I do that, I cannot use the Sony speakers indipendently along with the Era 100, which is the primary objective

If the SONY supports 3-head cassette decks with a “Tape Monitor” function, you could use a PORT. This will allow you to work around the inherent 75ms delay between analog input and output from the SONOS system.

Operationally, I think you will be better served if you can connect the SONY speakers to a SONOS AMP and use the SONY electronics as a simple analog audio switch connected to AMP’s Line-In. This would require that the SONY be capable of sending audio to an external tape deck.

The Port could be connected to the DAT connection. Since the Sony system looks quite old and the Port is expensive, I’d look for a second hand Port or it’s predecessor the Connect (Gen 2).

I would need to buy an AMP anyway.
Can I use the DAT connection for the line-in to the AMP directly?

Maybe the DAT connection will be useful. You’ll need to check if this output always follows the SONY input selector.
