How about a Sonos Port 2 with optical/spdf in

I am very happy with my Port. I do think it is priced high.

The analog in works fine with my analog turntable and the digital out coax ‘stream through’ to an external dac.

What I am missing is an optical in for my cd player.

I think it could be a great feature for the Port and increase the value for a small cost.

What do you think?

My two cents.

Interesting thought, but I wasn’t aware of many new devices, including TVs, that were offering an optical output. Would it make financial sense for Sonos to add such a thing to a Port 2? My imagination suggests usage would be extraordinarily low, relative to the cost of adding such a port.

Maybe? If it’s only about streaming yes. Then Sonos don’t need the Port from the start.

But, if they want to ad customer value to an expensive product and put smile on customers faces, this could be away for little money. Many non Sonos (Potential Sonos Customers) Buy Bluesound, Wiim devices for streaming capabilities. The Port is a streaming device that works very well for what it is

But I guess I am a lonely sole with Vinyl, CD and Streaming.

Not arguing against it, per se, just suggesting the usage would be incredibly small, for adding such a port on so many devices…there’d be a cost across each device, even in the single digits (cents, I’d hope)  across how many devices? Not sure it makes economic sense, given the few devices that still have optical outputs. My perception is that it isn’t used by many devices, but certainly is used by yours.

But then, I don’t have access to Sonos data, nor have I looked at device sales across audio types. It may make sense, just not to me. No reason not to request such a feature. I was merely having a conversation, and suggesting the need may not be as great on Sonos’ side as it is on yours. Certainly not denigrating the request.

Get a Ray, its a cheap way of getting an optical source into a Sonos system.

100% the Port needs more ports. Not just optical, IMO it also needs an HDMI arc input.

For a product like Port with stereo analog in + digital in and with stereo analog out + digital out, is a very useful streaming device for music listening and to connect a main hifi system into the multi-room listening system. Maybe it’s too late, but it should already been there. I guess I am just wishing.
