I have a Connect:Amp that I think is gen2, but I’m completely unable to get it added to my existing S2 system.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  • Factory reset at least 6 times
  • Setup a new S1 system, and it adds just fine and streams music just fine
    • Installed an update when I did this
  • Tried factory resetting again after being on teh S1 system…
  • And then try adding to S2…
    • It sees the Amp and says it needs an update
    • Attempt to install the update fails with error 1002
    • Try again… fails same way
    • Factory reset and try it all again… fails same way

I’ve tried with the amp on both ethernet and wifi.

When I was trying this last week (before getting it on the S1 system), it would attempt to install the update… very slowly the progress bar would fill… until it just hanged completely.

Now it won’t even try at all.

I tried opening the sonos app on my mac try force a system update (saw someone mention that in another thread)… the app froze when I did this. When I force quit and reopened it, it said no updates available.

Sooooo, is the Amp just not actually S2 compatible? Or something else?

Sonos support chat tried to tell me the router is a problem, but I think this is bs waste of time. Clearly the Amp works fine on S1. But they refused to escalate unless I spent an hour going through routers config settings. They also told me I have to call over the phone to escalate. Frustrating.

Some extra info about the amp (pulled from device_description.xml)

edit: added the info to main post. ignore this comment.

Look later in the xml for the memory: Gen 2 looks like this:

Gen 1 will be 32 for both. 32 is not enough to run S2.

<memory>64</memory>
<flash>64</flash>

It is currently running the latest S1 firmware, but is capable of running S2.

Sounds like the new app can’t update it to S2, maybe try again in a month when it might be in better shape. Plus hopefully Support wont be buried in calls by then too.

Today, I opened the S1 app… and it’s demanding I migrate to S2 😂

S1 app won’t let me control the Amp anymore, though I can still stream to it from Spotify.

Wtaf 😂

Yeah I get this occasionally, super annoying. I do “Reset the app” on the S1 app and it shuts up for a while.

Same problem here. tried resets (dozens), by myself and with tech support, , updating via Android phone, tablet, windows. nothing works.

SONOS should offer to let us to send in the amp and do the update for us there. This is ridiculous. A product this pricey even on the resale market, that is essentially nothing but a worthless brick……...
