I am sorry to hear of your aunts passing.

The Connect Amp is the older version of the Amp:

you can power 2-4 speakers with it. Many users have ceiling speakers that an Amp powers for audio in one or more rooms. Some users it to power surround speakers. Some use it to connect a turntable or CD player to have a dedicated listening area

Its up to you how you use it, but if you already have Sonos speakers, there are different generations of the Connect Amp. Older models with the speaker icon on the top button (mute) can only be used with the S1 app. The ones with the play/pause button can be used with either the S1 or S2 app.
