Amp Multi purchase

I have an Amp connect and an Audioflow switch connected to 4 ceiling speakers. I wish to install a multi amp now and remove the Audioflow switch. I have provisions to connect 4 more passive speakers. Why can’t I purchase the multi amp direct rather then going through an installer.

You mean the Amp Multi, right?

Yes. Apologies for confusion

Sonos made that decision due to the complexity of the Amp Multi.

You might contact Sonos directly (not this user to user forum) and see if there are exceptions to that policy.

I did. They directed me to the forum. I did request them to raise the issue with their hierarchy. Let’s see if I do receive a sympathetic response. I purchased the amp just last year.

Why don’t you want to buy it from an installer?

I believe an installer will not want to sell without full installation.

An installer may well be willing to sell one on for the difference in their cost and the list price.

They may ask you to sign a support contract to cover you coming back to them for installer services. No charge unless you ask for support.

Many years ago the place I worked had various prices depending on their services. From you pick it up, to a full install with support. The purchase order made all that very clear.

It’s kind of like purchasing a car through, in most cases, a dealership, which isn’t owned by the manufacturer of the vehicle. There are some exceptions to that rule here in the US, but it’s fairly small, relatively. Mostly determined by the policies of the manufacturer, but it’s pretty rare to purchase a vehicle directly from GM, Ford, Stellantis, Toyota, etc.

In this case there is no known list price of the item.

The installer will almost always have a list price. They may not make it public, preferring the package deal. Call and ask.

Searching finds interesting details, first hit as an example.
