I purchased a Sonos Boost many years ago, I believe for my Playbar and Sonos Sub at the time, as I believe it was needed to run it together. Unfortunately, I couldn’t keep the sub and had to return it but still have the Boost for some reason. Is the Boost still relevant for anything?

It’s not required, you can certainly wire your PLAYBAR, which would the duplicate the functionality of the BOOST, or you could just connect directly to your own WiFi signal.

See the wired and wireless modes FAQ.
