Can I connect my Project Debut Carbon Esprit SB directly to Sonos Play 5 (Gen 2) without the use of an amp?

That model does not have an integrated phono pre-amp, you would need an external phono pre-amp. Get one that is designed for a moving magnet stylus, not moving coil.
