I plugged my CD player directly to Sonos 5 However, you can barely hear.

Sonos customer support said I could connect direct Sonos 5 but that doesnt work

Do I need a preamp?

Has anyone been successful connecting to Sonos 5?

My cd player could be bad

Adjust the Source Level setting under the line-in settings.

Also be sure to set Audio Compression to Uncompressed.

I guess you are saying it should work, so I may have a bad CD player

I’d bet on a higher chance of a bad cable.
