Hi there,
I have exactly the same feature request(s) as here:
I have a projector setup with a retractable screen in front of a window, so a Sonos soundbar was never going to work for me. However I like the Sonos ecosystem and wanted a speaker setup for 3 primary use cases:
- good quality speakers for music
- could also be used for a home theatre setup
- could be used for a voice assistant
I had the idea to use 2x Era 100s as a stereo pair for my main speakers. But to get my different AV sources passing audio to them via the projector, I thought using an Amp with the ARC was the way to go. Finally I added a sub mini into the mix for good measure.
Before I committed to the purchase I phoned Sonos technical support to see if this setup would work: “sure” they said, “just make sure your projector has ARC”.
Unfortunately after purchasing I realised their response was a bit misleading, as I found out to my detriment that the Amp wouldn’t pair the Era 100s as front speakers, only rear channels.
Technically I could still get my desired setup working by grouping the Amp and the Era 100 stereo pair, but with a few issues:
- using the TV remote changed the volume of the Amp, but not the Era 100s, making for a frustrating TV watching experience. (Incidentally I could fix this by creating a simple Home Assistant automation - but it’s annoying to rely on more tech as a go-between here)
- sometimes my TV audio on my Era 100s gets minor interruptions - I’m not sure where the interruption is occurring from, but I imagine simplifying the chain and not sending the audio through my home network but rather just directly between the Amp and the front speakers could simplify things
Possibly using a line in from my Amp to one of my Era 100s could be an option but I don’t have the necessary RCA cable and USB C adapter, and I think the Amp would be sending an unbalanced stereo signal which I would be trailing next to my power cable, so…
TLDR; I have the same feature requests as the previous post:
- allow the Amp to have wireless speakers connected for the front stereo channel, not just the rear surrounds. It feels like this would be a really easy software fix as all the hardware and software is already there, just for different channels
- enable an option for an HDMI remote to change the volume of all speakers in a group. I can understand if this was requested before and not implemented - as some people might not want this behaviour. But at least give us the option to switch this on or off!
