We are looking into upgrading to our first Sonos system, I’m looking at an ARC ultra along with a sub 4 and two Era 300s as the rear speakers.
Primary use will be movies. We don’t want to do speaker stands and we don’t actually have a wall behind the couch for another 20 feet. Has anyone ceiling mounted the Era 300s? I read that in the settings you can invert them but does anyone have a similar setup and can make recommendations. Does it work well for surround sound / atmos experience?

Hi @Superbardibros, welcome to the Sonos Community!
It is possible to mount the Era 300 in an inverted position, and here is the section in our Era 300 user guide on mounting them in this orientation:
There aren’t any settings you need to adjust as the Era 300 has an internal gyroscope to help tell what orientation it is in. A few community users have asked if it is possible to mount the Era 300 in this way, and there isn’t many who returned to their threads to explain how it sounds, but here’s a thread I found where a user is happy with this configuration:
Ceiling mounting would likely sound and perform the same as inverted wall mounting since you want to place the Era 300 within 2 feet of a ceiling, something both these mounting styles would achieve. Please note that we don’t manufacture or sell any ceiling mounts on Sonos.com, so if you wanted to mount in this way, you’ll need to find a third-party that sells that type of mount.
I hope this information helps!
Have you considered a Sonos Amp and in-ceiling speakers? 6 and 8 inch ones are in the Sonos store.
I didn’t want to do in-ceiling just to avoid going down the wires and amp rabbithole… it also feels like the era 300s would give better audio but I was hoping to get some feedback here.
